Saratoga Summer 2006

July 28: The first day turned out well as I had a trifecta containing a 34-1 horse at the top. Thus my W2g I'm holding up the next day. Both days featured afternoon Summer Squalls that apparently rendered other people incapable of handicapping on the races. I also won pick 3's all day on both days. Phil studied the races but was not as active in wagering.

July 29:

People dress up for the weekend races at Saratoga such as this.

The featured race on Sunday was the Jim Dandy.     Here Bernardini makes his stretch run, devastating the group of plodders he ran against.

 Bernardini crosses finish line.

Minister's Bid and Hemingway's Key battle it out for 2nd and 3rd, trying to hold off Dr. Pleasure.

Bernardini was one of the best horses of the year. It was a tie between him and Barbaro for best 3yo. We later watched him run in the Breeders Cup Classic and lost narrowly to Invasor, who has only lost one career race. Bernardini retired and Invasor ran on, also winning the world's most expensive race, the Dubai World Cup with a purse of $6 million. (By comparison, the Breeders Cup Classic was worth $5M, and this Jim Dandy $500k)
