We attended the Derby Draw, which was open to
the public for the first time this year.

The
only pic I have of actually being at the Derby:

Dano and I also visited the Air Museum. Not quite the National Air and Space
Museum but still interesting.

Coolmore-Ashford (below) is a most impressive horse farm. The home of Fusaichi Pegasus.

Darley Jonabell is also quite impressive. Holy Bull stands there along with a statue of Triple Crown winner Affirmed.

Gainsborough Farm is probably the most impressive facility that we've seen.
Gainsborough is the home of Quiet American
,
who does not have a mean bone in his body, and

Overbrook Farm in Lexington is impressive in their stock of sires. First of all, they have Storm Cat, the most coveted sire with the most winners of any living sire. He was 23 years old in 2006 when we saw him. Most of the time he droops as in the first pic, because his back is tired of holding up that big head. When whinnied at however, he raises his head in attention. He's a living legend, as evidenced by the statue of him that Dano and I posed with. Pretty accurate portrayal.
Also featured at Overbrook were Cape Town (left) and Cat Thief, one of Storm Cat's sons who won the Breeders Cup Classic and finished 3rd in the Ky Derby.

We also made the annual pilgrimage to Taylor Farm to check out a breeding session and visit some sires. Southern Image was the young stallion in business that day. We're not allowed to take photos but they have the whole thing videotaped. Anyway they did have a lot of cute foals running around there. Here one is nursing in the pic.

Later at Winstar Farm, we visited Distorted Humor who has become a prized sire, and Tiznow, who bit my arm that day. He doesn't like strangers apparently.
