Race Summary |
|
CAPABILITY gained a
forward position early, forced the pace four or five wide, reached the front
in the upper stretch, briefly was clear inside the final furlong, then lasted
under pressure. MENASHA stumbled at the start, was outrun in behind horses
for a half, came out nine wide for the drive and finished with good energy
only to miss. SUNSHINENBEER, never far back, was steadied near the inside in
tight quarters leaving the half-mile ground, lost position on the turn, moved
out seven wide entering the stretch, bumped with NATURAL SPRING in the final
furlong and lacked a late response. NATURAL SPRING, bumped at the start and
forced out on NORTHERN STAG, raced within easy striking distance three or
four wide, loomed a solid threat for the final furlong, was bumped by
SUNSHINEBEER in the last eighth and lacked a final account. NORTHERN STAG,
bumped at the start, went up to contest the pace soon after while between
foes, angled to the rail beginning the turn, moved with the winner while
inside that one entering the upper stretch but flattened out the last eighth.
HEDGE YOUR BET drifted out at the start bumping NATURAL SPRING, settled in
behind rivals, eased out four or five wide for the drive, edged back inside
in the final furlong but never produced a response. MAJOR BLAST, near the
inside early, moved four or five wide around the turn and was empty entering
the stretch. YES YES YES, forced out slightly at the start, gained a slim
lead early while between foes, made the pace under pressure from CAPABILITY
and NORTHERN STAG, lost the lead to the winner nearing the final quarter and
gave way readily thereafter. |

Race Summary |
|
WILDCAT SHOES gained
the lead early, accomplished fast fractions while managing a narrow
advantage, then responded to brisk urging in the drive to hold sway. KEY
DEPUTY pressed the winner from early on while four wide, lost a position at
the eighth pole, then dug in gamely at the end to save the place. DEER LAKE
tracked the pace four wide, loomed menacingly outside the winner through the
drive and came up empty. WATCHEM SMOKEY, well placed in behind the leaders
early, was never far back, eased out five wide for the drive but lacked a
closing threat. ENGINEERED raced near the inside while outsprinted early and
failed to mount a closing response. UNBRIDLED AMERICA settled four wide
early, remained in that position on the track most of the way and had no
rally. PREMIER PERFORMER, outrun five wide, came eight wide when straightened
into the stretch and was empty. |

Race Summary |
|
CAP'N CAPOTE,
fractious in the gate prior to the start, went up early to vie for the lead
outside of CAN'T TRICK JAKE, reached the front early on the turn, battled
with ELIJAH'S SOING around the bend, was headed by that one briefly right at
the quarter-mile marker, regained the advantage while continuing four wide, then
moved clear late under solid encouragement. MAYTOWN lunged in the air at the
start, was never far back, tracked the pace four or five wide, loomed
prominently outside the winner through the drive and wasn't good enough.
ELIJAH'S SONG exchanged bumps with MISTER HOBBLES after the break, was well
placed inside, steadied lightly leaving the half-mile ground, continued from
the rail to head the winner entering the lane, then weakened soon after.
STERLINGPROSPECTOR, well placed in behind the leaders while racing near the
inside, was steadied briefly at the quarter-mile ground when lacking room,
continued near the rail and lacked a late account. CAN'T TRICK JAKE gained a
slim lead early, edged near the inside, was steadied between horses at the
five-sixteenths pole, continued forwardly into the lane and was empty when
the test came. WORK exchanged light bumps at the five furlong marker with
STERLINGPROSPECTOR while racing between foes, continued between horses while
edging closer on the turn, came out five wide for the drive and failed to
fire. SOUTHLAKE DRIVE, outrun early, worked his way inside by the end of the
backstretch, angled four wide for the drive but never menaced. MISTER
HOBBLES, sluggish to begin, exchanged bumps with ELIJAN'S SONG, then was
outrun. GO LIONEL GO was finished leaving the turn. |

Race Summary |
|
COOL CONDUCTOR, full
of run early and never far back, settled on the backstretch to race four or
five wide, continued four wide nearing the stretch, leaned in slightly while
advancing to the front, bumped with FLORIDA KEYS for a stride, quickly gained
a daylight advantage, then increased his margin at the end under strong
handling as clearly best. MIGHTY MILITARY, in front nearing the first turn,
was displaced briefly on the backstretch from the inside by NATIONAL PARK
(CHI), regained the edge, brought a clear lead into the lane, appeared to
drift out forcing FLORIDA KEYS out a path, then weakened. FLORIDA KEYS, in
hand while stalking the leaders three or four wide, moved up between foes
approaching the stretch, appeared to be forced out by MIGHTY MILITARY, bumped
with COOL CONDUCTOR when that one leaned in leaving the quarter-mile ground,
altered course five or six wide to be outside of COOL CONDUCTOR soon after
and came up empty. ON THE ACORN (GB), well placed from early on, raced in
behind the leaders on the far turn, loomed prominently from the rail through
the drive and was empty when the test came. TEMPERED STEEL, outrun for six
furlongs, improved position with a mild run while six wide . MIDDLEWEIGHT,
within striking distance and between horses much of the way, lacked a closing
account. CARTOONIST, unhurried early, moved inside after a half, continued
inside but failed to rally. MINDS LOCKED (GB), outrun for six furlongs, made
a mild run into the upper stretch and failed to continue. JAMIAN settled near
the inside and failed to menace. COUNT ON THE TUNA, forwardly placed near the
inside early, was sharply checked at the three furlong and couldn't recover.
DALE DALE (CHI), well placed between rivals for six furlongs, weakened in the
drive. NATIONAL PARK (CHI) vied for the lead inside of MIGHTY MILITARY to the
far turn and weakened gradually. FOLLOWING FOUL CLAIMS LODGED BY THE RIDERS
OF MIGHTY MILITARY AND FLORIDA KEYS, COOL CONDUCTOR WAS DISQUALIFIED FROM
FIRST AND PLACED THIRD. |

Race Summary |
|
BATTLE WON came out
bumping LEVEL PLAYINGFIELD at the start, went up to force the pace early
while between foes three or four wide, took over approaching the final
quarter, kicked clear and was kept to his task in the drive. LEVEL
PLAYINGFIELD, bumped by the winner at the start, settled in behind horses,
came out five or six wide for the drive and was fully extended to be up for
the place. POMEROY, never far back while working his way in four wide,
continued in a challenging position into the final furlong and came up empty.
SIR SHACKLETON gained a striking position early while edging in four or five
wide, was five wide when straightened into the stretch and could gain only
slightly at the end. HARVARD AVENUE, outrun for a half, advanced seven wide
into the lane and found his best stride late. HASTY KRIS leaned in at the
start bumping GRAND REWARD, then failed to rally in an even effort. TRICKEY
TREVOR came out bumping GOLD STORM, gained the advantage near the inside soon
after, made the pace until the final quarter, surrendered the lead to the
winner and gradually weakened. GRAND REWARD, bumped at the start and steadied
a bit, went up quickly to track the pace four or five wide, remained
forwardly placed into the upper stretch and flattened out. OCEANUS (BRZ)
leaned in at the start bumping soundly with GOLD STORM, then never reached
contention. GOLD STORM, bumped at the start by OCEANUS (BRZ) when that one
leaned in, then by TRICKEY TREVOR, weakened upon going a half. RUSHIN' TO
ALTAR, eight or nine wide on the backstretch early, never menaced.. |

Race Summary |
|
HALF OURS went up
early to battle for the lead while outside of DANCE DAILY, took over nearing
the final quarter, drew clear, then widened a bit at the end when kept to his
task. FIVE STAR HOLDING drifted in at the start, raced near the inside within
easy striking distance, lacked room at the quarter-mile ground when pocketed
by HIGH ADVENTURE, split horses when an opening appeared in the upper stretch
and was second best. BEACON SHINE, sluggish to begin, raced inside on the
backstretch, maneuvered out four wide on the turn, made a run to reach
contention at the furlong grounds and lacked a further response. SPOTSGONE,
sluggish to start and outrun four wide to the stretch, worked his way out six
wide in the final furlong and improved position. DANCE DAILY gained a slight
edge early, raced two or three wide while dueling with the winner, lost the
advantage to that one nearing the stretch and weakened. HIGH ADVENTURE
stalked the dueling leaders four wide to the stretch, tired and returned
bleeding from the nostrils. |

Race Summary |
|
MISS TERRIBLE (ARG)
rushed up along the rail to gain the early advantage, set the pace under mild
pressure while in hand along the backstretch, dug in when challenged leaving
the turn, battled along the rail into midstretch then edged clear under
steady right hand encouragement. SAND SPRINGS moved up from outside to
contest the early pace, pressed the issue while three wide along the
backstretch, made a run outside the winner to threaten on the turn but was no
match for that one while holding for the place. SHACONAGE steadied along the
rail while being shuffled back on the first turn, trailed along the rail for
six furlongs, swung out on the far turn, circled six wide entering the
stretch then rallied belatedly in the middle of the track. MAMBO SLEW raced
between horses going into the first turn, was rated just off the early pace,
lacked room while blocked inside the leaders on the turn, altered course to
the outside or clear sailing in upper stretch then flattened out late.
WARNING ZONE (SAF) checked slightly at the start, raced in the middle of the
pack while four wide along the backstretch, lodged a mild rally from outside
on the turn then faded in the stretch. BOASTING broke a bit slowly, steadied
sharply along the inside for five-eighths of a mile, dropped back on the turn
then lacked a further response. TICKER TAPE (GB) checked slightly at the
start then failed to threaten while four wide throughout. |
