Race Summary

SOUTHERN AFRICA settled between rivals while three wide on the first turn, was rated just off the pace, made a bid while five wide midway through the far turn, edged clear nearing the furlong marker and prevailed under strong handling. SHAMOAN (IRE) was well placed while just off the rail, made a bid midway through the final turn, took a short lead passing the quarter-pole, failed to match strides with the winner entering the final furlong but secured the place. REAL DANDY settled while just off the rail, was roused midway through the far turn, held a good striking position into upper stretch but lacked the needed kick while able to get the show. MAGNA GRADUATE was taken back after the start, raced at the back of the field while three wide, angled five wide leaving the far turn, steadied just slightly near the furlong marker and finished well to just miss the show. THOR'S ECHO contested the pace on the inside of GENERAL CHARLEY while three wide, vied into upper stretch and gave way. STORM SURGE raced three wide on the first turn, settled between rivals, was urged along while three wide on the far turn, came up empty in upper stretch and dropped out. BAROMETER RISING settled between rivals, was roused on the far turn and failed to rally. FOREVER WILD was caught five wide on the first turn, lagged near the back of the well bunched field on the outside, raced four to five wide on the far turn, was forced six wide into the stretch and failed to threaten. GENERAL CHARLEY contested the pace on the outside of THOR'S ECHO while four wide, dropped out in upper stretch and faded. YES HE'S A PISTOL was a bit reluctant to load, raced five wide on the first turn, settled on the outside, was ridden along while four to five wide on the far turn, jostled with AWESOME TWIST near the five-sixteenths marker and failed to respond. AWESOME TWIST was caught four wide on the first turn, settled towards the rear of the field, raced three to four wide on the far turn, jostled with YES HE'S A PISTOL near the five-sixteenths marker, dropped back near the quarter-pole and never reached contention.
