Race Summary

DON'T GET MAD, sluggish to begin and seven wide during the opening quarter, settled three wide after leaving the chute, advanced four wide around the turn, reached contention as the field tightened nearing the final quarter, was checked lightly while awaiting room behind and immediately inside GALLARDO, was eased out six wide around that foe when straightened for the drive, edged closer to the inside when going after front-running VICARAGE, wrested command about the sixteenth pole, was rapped once on the left side with the whip and drew off with authority. GALLARDO, unhurried early and four wide, moved with DON'T GET MAD while inside that one five wide entering the stretch, drifted in behind VICARAGE leaving the furlong grounds, was angled outside the winner in the late going and finished determinedly to earn the place. VICARAGE came out slightly at the start bothering ULTIMATE, was well positioned from early on while tracking the dueling leaders, inched to challenge midway on the turn, took over, settled into the lane with a clear advantage and had no mishap. MIRACLE MAN, well placed near the inside from early on, moved between foes four wide approaching the stretch and flattened out in the drive. ULTIMATE, checked lightly at the start behind VICARAGE when that one came out, moved up soon after to vie for the lead outside of BIG TOP CAT, gained a slight edge, lost it to BIG TOP CAT concluding the backstretch, continued forwardly to the stretch and faltered. SANTANA STRINGS stalked the pace four wide for six furlongs and weakened. BIG TOP CAT moved up inside to battle for the lead early, dueled with ULTIMATE, gained a slight edge before going a half, gave way readily after five furlongs and was eased leaving the eighth pole.
