Race Summary

BANDINI gained a forward position in hand four wide early, raced within easy striking distance, was put to a drive leaving the seven-sixteenths pole, reached the front when straightened into the upper stretch when roused once on the right side, edged into the three path, then drew off in the final furlong under steady left-handed encouragement. HIGH LIMIT, nicely placed under a rating hold three or four wide from early on while tracking front-running SPANISH CHESTNUT, inched after that one while advancing inside the winner on the far turn, stuck his head in front for a stride or two between calls leaving the quarter-mile marker, then was not match for BANDINI when straightened for the drive while superior to the others. CLOSING ARGUMENT came out after the break and bumped with SPANISH CHESTNUT when that one leaned in, was reserved in behind the leaders three wide, was asked for more entering the far turn, brushed with CONSOLIDATOR at the five-sixteenths pole while immediately inside that one, angled five wide into the stretch and couldn't menace the top two while fully extended for his position. SUN KING, allowed to settle quickly into last position, maneuvered in four wide, moved out farther on the track midway on the backstretch while continuing to trail, made a moved leaving the three-eighths pole to reach a striking position, came out seven or eight wide entering the stretch but was empty in the final furlong. CONSOLIDATOR bobbled at the break and leaned in soon after bumping SPANISH CHESTNUT, raced three or four wide, brushed with brushed with CLOSING ARGUMENT approaching the stretch, swung out six wide, was angled back in three wide when straightened away but had no response. SPANISH CHESTNUT leaned in after the break and bumped with CLOSING ARGUMENT, was bumped soon after by CONSOLIDATOR when that one came in slightly, moved to the front, opened a clear advantage while racing in the two path, showed the way until the final quarter and faltered. MR SWORD, a bit sluggish early, raced near the inside, swung out for the drive and never menaced.
